What we do
I’ve always been passionate about storytelling and impressed by the influence it has on people and the decisions they make in life. I love engaging with the projects I work on, diving headfirst into the research, investigation, and production of stories I feel are worth writing about.
I decided to self publish my first novel and found there are so many pitfalls and mistakes waiting to pounce on a new author, I would set up Oaken Dawn Publishing to help authors like me. Authors who worked hard, who's works are engaging and interesting and who are willing to do things right. Many new indie authors get their books edited by a friend, or a spouse or themselves. It doesn't matter how good you are, or well educated, you need a professional editor. My first cost me nearly €3,000 to get edited. It was tough (though crowd funding helped a huge amount). I don't regret a penny of it.
Another big issue for indie authors is that once a bookstore or supplier look up your ISBN an see 'Indie' or 'self published' they assume it will be a badly edited mess and will just skip it with out giving your work fair consideration. Being under a publishing company ( at least until you make a name) helps avoid that. Hopefully in time we will help more indie authors get their start and live the dream of earning their living from writing (Unless a miracle happens you will be many books in before this happens )
